Updating CenterScape

The CenterScape application server is updated periodically by RF Code's software developers. New versions can include functional updates that expand the capabilities of the software, security updates, and general bug fixes. The vast majority of the configuration of CenterScape resides in the database and is not part of the files installed on the application server. When a software update is installed, the update will modify the database schema to migrate the previous release that was installed to the new release that is newly installed. The CenterScape application will generate an error and not function if the database version is newer than the application server version.

  • The CenterScape application cannot be "downgraded" on an existing database that is of a new version

  • Any version of CenterScape can updated to the latest version.

  • CenterScape does not check for updates or contact RF Code in any way. It is designed to operate without "internet access".

  • Licensing for the CenterScape application is recorded in the database and does not reside in the application server host.

The procedure for updating CenterScape is as follows.

  1. Download the desired distribution of the CenterScape application from RF Code.
  2. Place the downloaded installer on the CenterScape host
  3. Backup the database prior to installing the CenterScape Application
  4. Follow the upgrade procedure for the target distribution

The next section on backing up the database is provided for users that do not already have established methods for maintaining database backups.
